Husna and X’mas

While driving home yesterday nite…

Husna : Mama, nanti Mama belikan saya Christmas hat macam Santa Claus tu eh ? (nasib baik bukan beli Santa)
Mama : Ok, kalau Mama jumpa. (Mama memberikan janji palsu;)
Husna : Mama, bila kita nak celebrate Christmas ? (Aahh, sudah! How should I answer this…think think..)
Mama : Kita tak celebrate Christmas…sebab kita Malay. (Jawapan Mama yang tak berkualiti..haha)
Husna : Tapi kan Mama, kita kan can speak English… (hah?)
Mama : (gulp)…… (haha, jawap…jawap…)

Yezzaa…inilah salah satu consequences of watching Disney Channel & Cartoon Network frequently. Inspite of her English is getting better than Papa, she seems to be enjoying, the idea of celebration of Halloween, Masquerade party, Christmas and other stuff. Tapi, aku tak pernah lah pulak menyambut or support ‘hasrat’ dia tu.

At this age, she understands the racial differences since my ‘geng’ here are 1Malaysia..hehe..Melayu ada, Chinese, Indian pun ada. So, not too difficult to explain to her. She ‘knows’ (tak tahu sejauh mana), that she is a Muslim, the idea of solat, puasa, masjid, cannot touch dogs, baca iqra, recite fatihah, doa makan dan selalu berdoa setiap kali nak tido. Tapi aku tak rasa dia faham, ada religions lain dan ada benda yang kita tak boleh buat/sambut.

I guess, it is time to start explaining to her about religions. Where do I start ?

Kakak Husna In The Making

Husna sangat suka dengan baby, so dia sangat happy dengan kehadiran baby dalam perut ni. Alhamdullilah. Jadinya tidak perlulah aku berusaha keras menyediakan dia untuk baby ini. Memandangkan sharing is caring…so aku nak sharelah, apa2 usaha (yang sikit ni) dalam menyediakan dia menjadi Kakak Husna.

1) Talk about the Baby
Kami selalu berbual pasal baby, masa waktu nak tido. Biasanya Husna yang banyak tanya…”Mama, baby dah makan? Dah minum susu, dah mandi…”. Ini ok lagi…kadang2 dia tanya “Mama, dalam perut mama ada bed tak? Baby pakai baju apa? Baby sleep hug mama tak? Macamana baby nak hug mama? Belakang mama tade lubang pun?” Hehe..jawap..jawap..jgn tak jawap;)

Boleh jugak cakap dengan dia pasal selepas baby dah keluar. Bagitau dia, she has to look after the baby, because she is Kakak Husna now. I also always tell her that you have to share toys, books and stuff with the baby. Part ni kadang2 dia tanya -”How baby want to play, she (dia selalu refer baby as she) put my toys in mouth?” Heh, terer anak aku, boleh predict;). Ohh aku cakap jugak…after this she has to sleep with baby in her room, cannot sleep with mama anymore. Ini buat dia terdiam, then dia jawap OK!

2) Ask her to talk to the tummy
Husna rajin juga bercakap dengan baby walaupun tak disuruh…sangat sejuk perut aku bila dia kiss my tummy Antara benda yang dia selalu cakap ialah:
- “Good nite / good morning baby”
- ”I love u baby”
- “Baby, stop kicking.” (ni bila aku ngadu, perut sakit..dia akan terus ckp pada baby)
- “Baby, what are you doing?”
- “Baby, you girl or boy?”
- and sometimes she ‘gives’ toys for baby to ‘play’…hehe comel!

3) Let her be the ‘role-model’ for the baby
Ini memang berkesan. Kalau ada sesuatu yang aku nak dia buat, aku akan cakap, contohnya..”Husna, baby wants to see how Kakak Husna brush her teeth?”, “Husna, baby wants to see how Kakak Husna read Iqra’ “. Immediately and excitedly, she will do that, sambil konon2 menerangkan how to brush her teeth, what letter is this…etc. Bestkan? Next time aku nak try suruh dia lipat baju lak..:))
Satu je problem, dia mesti suruh aku ‘bukak’ perut supaya baby boleh tengok, katanya. Aiyak!

4) Get her involve with the preparations
Ni aku belum buat, selagi aku belum tahu gender budak kecik ni, aku takde hati lagi nak shopping apa2. Tapi Husna dah prepare, dia dah pilih baju2 dia yang kecik dan nak kasi kat baby…kalau baby girl. Dia kata kalau baby boy, mama kena beli t-short bob the builder or thomas..hehe, dia dah plan dah! (Bukan baju sahaja, kasut2 dia masa baby pun dia dah prepare dah)

She even has selected a few names for the baby. Ni merapu skit la anak aku ni…ada ke nak letak nama Dibo, dengan apa ye satu lagi..emm aku pun lupa, tapi character kartun yang dia suka tengok lah;)

So ini antara tips yang aku boleh share..tak sure berjaya ke tak selepas betul2 dapat baby. Itu lain cerita, yang penting kena ikhtiar. Kat sini pun ada tips from babycenter.com. Read here.

Till then, jaga kesihatan anda semua, jangan pegi tempat ramai2 dengan bawak anak2 kecik anda dan jangan lupa pakai mask, otey. (Alhamdulilah, Husna & Mama are getting better).

Lou and Lou: Safety Patrol

One night, Husna was cycling in the house. Suddenly, she was asking Papa:

Husna : Papa, apa yang kat atas kepala tu? Tali keledar?
Papa : Bukan. Topi keledar.
Husna : Oh nanti papa belikan ye?
Papa : Naik basikal tak payah pakai topi keledar..motor aje.
Husna : Alaaa…safety violation tu kata kena pakaiii…
Papa : (tak bunyi apa2 pun:))

Hah, tu dia…safety violation tuhhh!! Anak mama yang bijak!=)

While I was putting the damp clothes on hangers, suddenly a little girl with braided hair ran into the house and came out with her sunglasses on. She took a few clothes and straight away hang them. Wahhhhhh…this is a good news. I have a new victim now to dry and hang the clothes! Oh sila tengok her new style of drying and hanging my tudung, a ‘wont-fly-away’ style!! Selamat mencuba!=)

As before, we celebrates Husna’s birthday on Raya Haji. Just now, I asked her, what she wants for her birthday from these people. (Mama dia tidak mempengaruhi apa2 dalam hal ini – ini adalah jawapan yang terus dari dia, otey;)

Papa: Sewing Husna >> nak jadi tukang jahit ke?
Atuk: Beli untuk hadiah ibu la >>hehe..baik hati pulak dia
Ibu: Earing >> girly abis la, bila masa dia belajar perkataan ini….huhhu
Abah: Belt, pink color >> tak lupa sebut pink color tu..
Mak: Tak payah..kaki mak sakit tak boleh beli present husna >> hehe pandai anak aku ni, kewl!
Adik: Mermaid tail >> HAH? abis la ko dikkkk..lari..
Auntie Bell: Basketball >> ??? Sungguh aku tak sure napa dia nak basketball?
Paksu: Big scarf >> ni aku rasa dia maksudkan cekak rambut

Husna: The Smart Kid with The Smart Parents B-)

I would like to share with all mama and papa, the progress report of Husna at ‘going-to-3′ years old, and how we contributed to this progress with our hectic life & work. This entry is not trying to show off (ada lite-lite aa) that my daughter is the smartest kid the world but to share my experience how we do it with little helps. As we know, at the age of 1-5 y, it is very crucial time because their brains are like sponges (serap abis), so jom baca…

1) Recognize A-Z and 1-10.
She can recognize A-to-Z (capital letters), and still learning of small letters. She can spell contohnya, ” S-A-M-S-U-N-G, TV!!”. (muahahaha, kewl tak anak aku ngeja=). For numbers, yup she can ‘read’ the numbers but not (yet)count. Katakan ada 5 ekor kucing, dia akan kira sampai 10..opps terlebih sudah!
How: She got this skill from the games in laptop (laptop mainan tu). She always play with it and one day suddenly we realized that she has already recognized the ABC. Since then, we’ve started polishing up this skill, asking her to tell us the letters whenever we see them (tp jangan paksa otey).

2) She can recognize the shapes including diamond, love and star. She even can differentiate the shape of a rectangle and a square.(kelass gitu)
3) She knows the colors, esp Pink otey!
How: I bought a lot of Barney’s CDs. I guess she learns a lot from Barney:). Tapi mestilah consistent bagi dia tengok sampai dia boring!

4) She holds a pencil as she is 5 years old.
5) She can ‘color’ nicely and follow the pictures/shapes.
How: I bought so many coloring books and color pencils. Then let her explore on her own. Hehe..ni mmg takleh ajar kot. Aku rasa ni peer influences. Aunties & Uncles dia, dah umur 5 tahun ke atas…haruslah kan dia belajar sbb nak mingle with them:) [**UPDATE**: Let's watch here.]

6) She can recite Bismillah, Alhamdullilah, Lailahailallah.. and ’selawat’. (sejuk perut aku, heh!)
How: A few years back, I bought this CD Cassette from Mesra Petronas. The title is “I Look, I See” by Yusuf Islam, Friends and Children. I always play it everytime (everyday otey) we are in the car. So senang kerja aku, tak perlu ajar so many times:)

7) She can translate bm-bi, bi-bm to Mak (my grandma) – wah macam kamus pulak!
How: I think this skill she got from the cartoon series (memang influence abis), the books and i think la because we talk almost 60% English (heh, wpun kelam kabut) with her . So dengan Mak, kena cakap melayu dan sekrg dia mengajar Mak ckp omputih plak. Kewl!

8 ) She is a very IT savvy kid.
Buktinya – “Mama, nanti download heroes kat laptop Husna otey!”..muahahaha…download tu yg tak tahan tu…
How: Heh, ini memang genetic kot…udah siang malam tengok kami asyik menghadap laptop aje!

9) Understand the concept of azan, prayer and doa.
I love to listen to her doa before sleep -”Ya allah, jadikan Husna anak yang baik, not cry, not gaduh2 with mak, eat rice, drink a lot of water, sihat, makwe cepat baik, makwe can talk, can walk” (mm..she always doa for makwe:(
How: Ni memang KENA ajar kot…but how? Teaching by example is the best. I suggest when you want to pray, why not ask the kid(s) to follow. Tak kisah la, tak abis rakaat pun, tak kisah bagaimana rupanya diaorang rukuk dan sujud..hehehe. But dont forget, jangan paksa. And we you recite the doa, recite loudly, let them hear it. . I guess it’s good to let them familiar with the basic. Ni, kalau mak-bapak tak tahu (lupa kot) semayang, pegi belajar balik otey!:p

10) Dah pandai betulkan mama & papa
Contohnya : ”mama pakai seat belt, nanti kena tangkap polis”, “papa, apa sepah2 ni…”
How: Yelah kan, dah ajar dia, kena lah mak-bapak pratik kan jugak…dush dush..

11) Dah potty trained
Heh ni mama paling suka, boleh la mama beli banyak baju princess (handbag mama, perfume, baju…)
How: Ni memang kena practice la, tade shortcut. Aku ajar Husna ‘poot-poot’ dulu. Ni ajar ‘wee-wee’ plak. Aku tak ambil masa yang lama sbb I guess she is ready (baca sini: Potty training readiness and Potty Training 101 ). Dalam 2-3 minggu (weekend sahaja) secara berterusan, aku tanggalkan diaper dia (untuk beberapa jam sahaja), and kept asking her ‘nak wee-wee tak’. Ada lah dalam 2-3 kali ‘terbabas’.Then lepas tu, aku dah confident dah dgn dia. Tido? HARUS lah kan pakai… Oh before that, korang haruslah membeli potty-seat yang comel tu, and ajak lah dia tampal2kan sticker2 yang lawa..hehehe..Well done, Husna!

12) Dah pandai pujuk-memujuk
Dia dah pandai guna perkataan “Pleaseeee, Mama”, “Sorry, Mama” , “I luv u, Mama” dan seangkatan dengannya.. TAPI tak boleh lawan la yang ni. My heart is melting whenever she says – “Thank you Allah for my mother”….huuuu..touching u!
How: Ni sama dgn 9 & 10. Teaching by example:)

So conclusion nya, budak2 sekrg esp anak2 kita memang bijak2…kita, parents yang pemalas class + modern ni, perlu lah lebih bijak menggunakan semua tools and mediums yang ada untuk contribute in their pre-education ni. Kami pun ‘budak’ baru belajar, apa2 tips yang nak di-share amat2 dialukan. Selamat Mencuba!

Mistaken Identity

Husna believes she is a princess. She sometimes said to others – My name is Princess Husna. I have to buy almost 10 dresses because she only wears a dress, which she calls as ‘baju princess’ or ‘baju-nampak-tiak’. I have to make-up stories just to pujuk her to wear pyjamas in the evening. She even asked for a crown!! Nobody teach her what a crown is! She will dance and sit like a princess, and even waving her hand like a Miss World waves to the crowd..aha, you know how..

However, sometimes this princess-wannabe thingy, helps me too. I could tell her something like… princess always behave, eat carrots for beautiful eyes, eat vege for beautiful hair…hehe. A princess never shout and always say please and thank you. Yaa, it works you know..ohh my girl really wants to be a princess!=)

Actually mamas, we have to nourish this kind of imagination (of course la mesti berpada) to help her to be imaginative, to improve vocabulary (yup..suddenly she could say crown), to learn social rules and more. Read here.

Takpelah Husna, Mama can deal and accept this. You still look pretty and cute. Mama tak boleh bayangkan kalau Husna nak jadi Spider Man ke, Transformer ke or lagi teruk nak jadi pelakon Bollywood!
